Nurturing the Clinician

Connection, Reflection & Sustainable Practice for Perinatal Mental Health Professionals

You spend so much of your professional life caring for others.

Nurturing the Clinician creates intentional space to care for the person doing that work, too.

An Exclusive Offering for Nurturing Mamas Conference Attendees

Created exclusively for attendees of the Nurturing Mamas Conference, this small, facilitated group is an opportunity to continue something we value deeply about the conference: bringing perinatal mental health professionals together not only to learn, but to genuinely connect.

The conference may bring us together for a few days. Nurturing the Clinician gives us a place to continue that connection throughout the year.

This is a space to know one another beyond a name on a Zoom screen, talk honestly about the experience of doing this work, and build relationships with other clinicians who understand both its meaning and its demands.

The group is led by Felicia Hurst, LPC-S, PMH-C, founder and Program Director of Nurturing Mamas Network, perinatal mental health clinician, clinical supervisor, and educator.

A Place to Connect

Perinatal mental health work can be deeply meaningful. It can also be emotionally demanding and, at times, surprisingly isolating.

This group offers an opportunity to develop genuine relationships with other clinicians who understand the unique experience of doing this work.

Together, we will make room to explore questions such as:

  • What is giving me energy right now, and what is taking it away?

  • What parts of my professional life feel sustainable? What doesn't?

  • Where am I over functioning or asking too much of myself?

  • What basic needs have I started treating as optional?

  • Where would a boundary create more relief than another coping strategy?

  • What am I carrying from my work that I don't need to continue carrying?

  • How am I making room for relationships, interests, creativity, rest, and an identity outside of my professional role?

  • What does caring for myself realistically look like in this particular season of life?

  • What do I need more of—and what might I need less of?

There will be room to share experiences and ideas, but no expectation that every struggle needs an immediate solution.

Sometimes we need practical ideas.

Sometimes we need perspective.

And sometimes we simply need to sit with people who understand and be able to say, "This has been hard lately."

What Our Time Together Looks Like

The group meets monthly for 90 minutes in a small, consistent cohort.

Each gathering includes time for connection and checking in, guided reflection, and a facilitated conversation around an aspect of caring for ourselves and creating sustainable professional lives.

Topics may include boundaries, workload, emotional labor, professional isolation, rest, relationships, identity outside of work, creativity, financial and professional sustainability, seasons of change, comparison, expectations, and the everyday practices that help us remain connected to ourselves while caring for others.

We aren't working toward perfectly balanced lives.

We are working toward lives and careers that feel meaningful, connected, humane, and sustainable.

A Note About Case Consultation

Nurturing the Clinician is intentionally focused on the clinician rather than on clinical cases.

While our work with clients will naturally be part of our conversations, this group is not designed for case consultation, clinical supervision, or in-depth discussion of treatment planning and interventions.

Our focus is on you as the professional doing the work—your experience, relationships, boundaries, sustainability, connection, growth, and care for yourself within and beyond your professional role.

Clinicians who are looking for a space to bring perinatal mental health cases for deeper clinical reflection and consultation are encouraged to consider Mentoring the Perinatal Mental Health Professional, facilitated by Bina Bird, LMFT-S, PMH-C, and Felicia Hurst, LPC-S, PMH-C.

That group is specifically designed for reflective consultation around perinatal clinical work, including complex cases, clinical decision-making, the therapeutic relationship, and self-of-the-therapist considerations.

The two groups serve different purposes, and clinicians are welcome to participate in both when they would benefit from both forms of support.

Your Commitment to the Group

Meaningful connection takes time and consistency. Because Nurturing the Clinician is designed to be a small, relational cohort rather than a drop-in group, participants are asked to commit to attending each meeting in the cohort whenever possible. Showing up consistently allows trust to develop, relationships to deepen, and the group to become a genuinely supportive professional community. Your registration fee covers the entire cohort and includes every scheduled meeting, rather than being a per-meeting fee. By registering, you are reserving your place in the group for the full cohort and making a commitment not only to your own experience, but to the community we will create together.
