Content Description

Nature plays a significant role in emotional and cognitive health. Time spent in natural spaces increases in attention, working memory, and cognitive flexibility (Ohly et al., 2016). In this workshop, participants will learn ways to incorporate nature-based therapy interventions into perinatal therapy sessions. Additionally, they will learn about the types of spaces that promote healing and happiness through the three important features of sensory complexity, freedom, and space, as well as a newly proposed six-step model for nature-based therapy (Oh KH et al., 2020). 

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will demonstrate 3 therapeutic interventions to support nature-based therapy for perinatal clients.

2. Participants will learn 3 appropriate uses of and considerations for nature-based therapy in their clinical work.

3. Participants will consider 2 ways to apply nature based therapy with perinatal clients.

Presenter Name and Qualifications:

Ashley Lingerfelt  M.S., LPC, PMH-C

Ashley S. Lingerfelt is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in infant, early childhood, and perinatal mental health and a trainer at Nurturing Mamas Network. She is the clinical director and founder of Playtime Therapy of Georgia, LLC, and serves on the board of directors for the Georgia Chapter of Postpartum Support International as the perinatal mental health subject matter expert for the state. Ashley has been featured in articles for New York Times Parenting, The Washington Post, Romper, Good Housekeeping, and is published in “Nature-Based Play and Expressive Therapies: Interventions for Working Children, Teens, and Families” (Courtney, Langley, Wonders, Heiko, and LaPiere, 2022).

This interactive synchronous distance/live interactive(live virtual) webinar is offered on zoom on the dates listed below. Please note: registration must be completed by 10:00 p.m. CST on the day before your scheduled training session. This live webinar takes place on Zoom and is fully interactive. Attendees may ask and answer questions throughout the presentation and participate in instructor- led discussions. Course completion requirements: behavioral health and social workers must attend the entire course and complete a course evaluation to be eligible for ce credit. Certificates of completion will be emailed within 2 business days of course completion. 

Nurturing Mamas Network has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7232. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Nurturing Mamas Network is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
