Content Description:
Eating disorders and body dissatisfaction are critical yet underexplored challenges faced by individuals during the perinatal period. This presentation aims to enhance awareness of these issues among healthcare providers and support collaborative care for affected populations. Specific attention is given to populations at increased risk, including LGBTQIA+ individuals and BIPOC communities, highlighting unique challenges and systemic disparities. We will explore risk factors and signs of eating disorders. Additional focus areas include the distinction between eating disorders and disordered eating, medical complications, and the psychological impact of body dissatisfaction, a known contributor to the onset and relapse of eating disorders. The session emphasizes a collaborative approach to care, with guidance on identifying at-risk individuals and making appropriate referrals.
